Added Values

Added values (also additive rhythm), first described by Olivier Messiaen as "valeur ajoutée" consists of a localized rhythmic displacement by sporadically adding to a beat a value of short duration in the form of a rest or augmentation dot (typically corresponding to 1/4 of the perceived beat-unit), briefly disrupting the sense of beat-hierarchy.
